Tis the season to entertain!
With a small amount of time and money, you can show effortless hospitality and affection. Here are a few helpful hints to greet each guest with warmth and style:
  • Hang a wreath. It symbolizes the unbroken Circle of Life and the importance of family and friends. Pick up a live or artificial wreath and add distinctive decorations to show your personality. Just a lovely bow can complete the statement!
  • Burn a candle or bake some cookies. Pick your favorite holiday scent, and greet your friends with a warm and inviting fragrance. My personal favorite is Frasier Fir from The Thymes.
  • Wrap a gift. Even the simplest gift can be transformed with extra attention paid to the wrapping. Wrap a present in shipping paper and use a seasonal stamp to add pattern. Add a festive bow with greenery and perhaps an ornament, and your guest will be delighted that you took the extra time and effort.

Did you know...
In the winter, as much as 40% of the heat that escapes a home flows through the windows?

Here a couple of tips to decrease heat loss and reduce heating costs:
  • Use weather stripping around window (and doors!) Modern weatherstripping materials are inexpensive and very effective at minimizing the loss of warm air (and money).
  • Use window treatments and blinds. One of the simplest and most beautiful ways to reduce heat loss through windows is to use window treatments. They can be closed at night to trap cold air and opened during the day to allow sunlight to naturally warm the house. Some of my favorite window treatments are roman shades and long panels. The picture shown is a recent project using both natural roman shades and long textured sheers for a layered look.
