JANUARY 2011
Happy New Year! The beginning of the new year is a great time to make resolutions and set goals, especially when it comes to your home. At this time of year, take an assessment of an area of your home that is really bugging you and brainstorm changes that can solve the problems. Sometimes one small change can make a huge difference in the quality of your day to day life. Below are some small changes that may inspire you: from a 2 day bedroom reDesign to tips to organize your kids rooms.

Two Days, New Bedroom!
We have another successful reDesign to share with you: a master bedroom for a client who was ready to make her room an inviting and relaxing sanctuary. We made it happen in two days! How? Read on:
  • PAINT- Our client likes her mahogany-stained bed but felt the room was dark and cave-like with the light brown color she had on the walls. Day 1 of the reDesign consisted of painting her room a slate blue gray color: this brightened up the room and gave it a modern, soothing feel she was dreaming of.
  • FURNITURE REARRANGMENT- The bedroom furniture was arranged in a way that made a small-ish room feel even smaller. By flipping the bed to the other side of the room and moving a dresser to a different wall, we actually gained more space to add a storage bench and a substantial full length mirror.
  • ACCESSORIES- To help pull the room together, we brought in two new bedside tables, a storage bench, a full length mirror, two lamps, a new duvet set and a couple of accent pillows. With newly framed artwork our client had and loved, we finished accessorizing and personalized the room to complete the transformation..
For about $2500, you can pick a room in your home to be transformed into a space that will not only be beautiful, but functional for your lifestyle. For more information about the reDesign, please call 678-984-5019.

Three Small Changes: tips from Balance Design's professional organizer, Sarah Carpenter.
  1. Are your kid's rooms overflowing with toys from the holidays? One way to reduce clutter is to offer small change (25 cents?) for each item they choose to donate. It may sound a bit like bribery but another way to view it might be.... a great way for children to simplify their belongings, keep their rooms manageable, and to understand the importance of giving to others in need. You may be pleasantly surprised how practical and well assessed their choices are!
  2. Organize your comings & goings by placing a large basket near your main entrance to collect shoes, umbrellas, even pet leashes. By having a designated space for these items, you not only clear the walkway, but there is less visual clutter.
  3. Another idea to organize your day-to-day schedule is to have an in & out box stationed somewhere near your main entrance. A calendar, dry erase board, and key hook are other tools that help increase family communication and decrease stress by bringing sense & order to your daily routine.
